Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has been charged with lying by Justice Eric Baah, a justice of the Appeals Court who also serves as the Supreme Court's extra judge.

The renowned journalist attempted to deceive the court, the judge said in a defamation case filed before him by Anas Aremeyaw Anas against Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central.

He said that there was "internal contradiction and inconsistency" in Anas Aremeyaw Anas's case.

"Obviously, the plaintiff’s case in relation to his identity suffered from internal contradiction and inconsistency. I did not find that to be the result of an unintended error or mistake" he wrote.

Anas Aremeyaw Anas attempted to dispute the judge's assertion that he was plainly recognised in the evidence.

"As the pleadings on both sides, the evidence of defendant and the submission of plaintiff’s own counsel shows, the plaintiff was pictorially depicted in exhibit KOA1, contrary to the denials of plaintiff’s attorney and his witness, PW1. The denials of plaintiff through his attorney and his witness (PW1) of his presence in exhibit KOA1, were deliberate falsehoods calculated to mislead the court" Justice Eric Baah wrote.

"For a person accused of fraud by defendant, this bold lack of candidness in a court of law, and in the face of the whole world, was a reproachable act indeed" he added.
